yes, definitely go! I didn’t mention it in the post, but there’s another amazing and very varied exhibition on the second floor that I loved: https://www.moadsf.org/exhibitions/unruly-navigations

thanks for the intro to this artist and timely reminder to visit a museum! I immediately thought of embroidery when you showed the up close shots of the texture of the paintings. What you wrote really resonated, I feel like I never “got” abstract art before being able to visit museums and experiencing the immense scale of the works and vibrancy of the colors in person.

thank you Alicia!! and yes—I feel like reading about how moving Rothko’s paintings are (as an example) and then zooming in on a jpeg online doesn’t really capture the emotional and phenomenological experience of viewing his work…it’s so different and really special to encounter many of these works in person

(also—so different to experience the SCALE of a painting that’s taller than you!)

thank you!! genuinely such a kind and encouraging comment 💌

I'm thinking of writing about visual art a bit more—it's something I feel fundamentally unqualified to do, but ALSO the way we qualify ourselves to write about anything (imo!) is through practice and research…so I'll likely write more posts that move between art–literature–design in the future!
